I like the addition. I would try eye-dropping some color from the baseball. There's a really cool "worn" look you have going there that I almost wish we could see those subtleties in that colored bar you've included.
Dear Kathryn, I actually like what you have going on here as it works with your current color scheme. The ratio between the top of the green bar and the bottom of the green bar: does it need for contrast? How set are you on the thickness? Does it correlate with any other visual element on the page?
