Dear Kathryn, If you are going to look at just the silhouette (bottom image,) I think you have to "design" it more to pull out the shapes of the three parts: stem, apple and leaf. Especially the leaf. (If you are still interested in pursuing the simple silhouette.)
If you want to work on the top image, I woul work on the line weight and see how it looks when it's "actual" size on a smart phone.
