Taylor, good start. You may have already decided this, but you might need multiples of different "patterns" for each of your "statements."
Once this image is chopped up into the book format, I don't know how it will "behave."
You might even want to do 3-4 variations on this pattern based on type. Different type weight and size, "band" widths, different colors, different level of darkness and lightness to create different textures...
My guess is that once you cut these up and start making a few books, and then you will get a lay of the land of how the flat translates to the 3-dimensional. How fun!
